Kurana Crash Memorial

At 7:40am on Monday, November 8th 1948, the "Kurana" a Douglas DC3 aircraft; clipped the tops of the trees on Mount Macedon. Cloud and misty rain reduced visibility on the mountain, leading to the crash.

The memorial information board (erected 50 years after the crash) is only 50 metres from the Memorial Cross gatehouse and sits quietly at the location of the crash site among the trees.

For visitors with extra time, and sense of history, it is also recommended visiting the Gisborne Historical Society to view the bravery medals awarded to the crew of the aircraft.
