About the role

Top of the Range is looking for a passionate Qualified Cook to be part of an enthusiastic team in our Cafe.

This is an opportunity for the right experienced person to be part of a well-known large tourist cafe which seats up to 120 people.  Your organisational skills will be required for the food managing of birthday celebrations, large group bookings and wedding functions.

Initial days of work will be Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with an opportunity to expand as the business continues to expand.

We are looking to hire someone with the ability to continue (and improve) the high quality service provided by Top of the Range.

About the workplace

Top of the Range is situated on the summit of Mount Macedon, within the Macedon Regional Park, only 45 minutes from Melbourne.  We are a family business, which is open 7 days a week from 10am-4pm except on Christmas Day.  Mount Macedon is a popular tourist attraction, and during various times of the year, the region can see tens of thousands of international visitors.

Tasks/duties of Qualified Cook

  • Produce quality food in a timely manner

  • Be motivated and can work unsupervised

  • Can implement inventory control measures to minimise food wastage and spoilage

  • Undertake reporting and ensure kitchen meets all safety, regulatory and professional compliance standards

  • With the assistance of the Business Manager, plan seasonal menus focussing on local produce

  • Arrange the purchasing and pricing of goods according to budget

  • Maintain all records required including stock levels and wastage reports

  • Ensure kitchen facilities comply with all health regulations and are clean, functional and of suitable appearance.

  • Understand the importance of mise en plus, and prioritise when doing preparation.

  • Encourage adhering to set policy, procedure and standards

  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends

  • Ability to work in a team environment and lead where required.

About You

As the ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent

  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in a busy cafe environment

  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate

  • An outgoing and confident personality

  • Experience supervising and leading teams.

  • Ability to take criticism on board and improve as required

  • Ability to liaise with team members and problem solve

  • Sound written and verbal communication skills

  • Sound computer and documentation skills

  • A current and valid Police Check
